About the authors

Clare Segal is co-director of The Management Centre (=mc), a global consultancy and training organization working solely for value-driven organizations.

Her key areas of expertise are communications and personal coaching for charity and NGO leaders. She has pioneered writing high impact fundraising cases using psychological profiling for a number of leading charities in the environmental, child protection and healthcare fields. These cases have transformed the impact of charity communications for major donors. Among the charities she has helped are NSPCC, WWF, Save the Children Alliance, and the Alzheimer’s Society.

She has also coached a number of CEOs and senior managers to make high profile presentations for key events, from a £1M ask to helping a CEO prepare a presentation to 500 staff.

She was a co-founder of =mc almost 20 years ago and has played a key role in building it up to be a leading player in the consultancy and training world.

Prior to setting up =mc she was an award-winning video producer and director winning ‘Best Community Video’ award twice in the UK for multi-media work on sexism and volunteering.

Among her recent high profile projects are:

  • planning for and designing the public response to the London Bombings in July 2005
  • helping Save the Children Alliance to raise $500M for the education of children who live in conflict zones
  • facilitating a major review of the US Public Broadcasting Service to develop new business models to reflect changing demographics
  • working with a number of UK charities on developing consultation processes for vision and mission

She co-authored Breakthrough Thinking for Non-Profit Organizations with Bernard Ross. This book won the Terry McAdam Award for Best Non Profit Book in the USA 2004- the first time Europeans have won this award. You can contact her at c.segal@managementcentre.co.uk.
